This workshop will take the Albert Irvin and Abstract Expressionism exhibition at the RWA as a starting point for exploring composition in abstract painting. Observing structure, space and surface in the works on show, and by applying drawing and collage techniques, students will be encouraged to develop abstract compositions to be realised in paint. The intention of this workshop is for students to acquire an understanding of process that could ultimately be applied to making their own work.
All basic materials provided for this class (heavier weight papers available at cost price). Please bring an apron or wear clothes suitable for an art studio. We recommend bringing your own brushes if you have them. As wet media will be used, you may wish to bring a plastic bag or portfolio for taking wet work home.
