Exploring Abstraction: Geometry and Gesture
29 Feb and 1 Mar 2020
Tutor - Nick Moore
Saturday 29 February, 10.30am - 4.30pm and Sunday 1 March 2020, 11am - 4pm
Abstraction is often seen as being unrelated to the ‘real’ world in that it doesn’t reference recognisable, everyday objects and is often perceived as obscure, meaningless or chaotic. This workshop will take a focused look at abstract painting; you will explore both theoretical and practical aspects and look at different approaches to abstraction, such as ‘lyrical’, ‘gestural’ or expressive, and ‘geometric’. Working with the richness and versatility of the genre, you will engage in a variety of mark making techniques and materials, with structured exercises and time for individual development, as well as discussion and critique of the work.
