Circus is Dead! Long Live the Circus! Panel Discussion
8 May 18
Tuesday 8 May
Panel discussion: 6.30pm - 8pm
This lively panel discussion will bring together artists, performers and key members of Bristol's performance community to explore the future of circus in our city and beyond.
A panel of internationally-respected speakers will give their perspectives on how the circus arts are changing, before opening the conversation to wider debate and audience questions.
Chaired by Orit Azaz, independent artistic director and a long standing collaborator of NoFit State (the UK’s leading large-scale contemporary circus company) speakers include; Mish Weaver, Circus Director and founder of Stumble (danceCircus); Carol Peace, founder of the Bristol Drawing School, Doug Francisco, founding member and ring master at Invisible Circus and figurative sculptor; Rowan Fae, Producer, Director, Choreographer and Artistic Director of Full Tilt.
Against the backdrop of the exhibition Sawdust and Sequins: The Art of the Circus, this panel discussion will focus on circus as an art in its own right. We will look back to the pioneering days of early circus, its continuous reinvention, risk-taking and agency for activism and social change, alongside the expressive, the breath-taking and the beautiful.
This discussion event welcomes all - from professional practitioners to anyone with an interest in circus, dance, theatre and live performance.
This event is in partnership with Circomedia Centre for Circus and Physical Theatre.
