ITALIAN HOLIDAY - Locating a Personal Practice in Landscape

Price: Regular price £395.00 Sale

Tutor: Stewart Geddes PRWA

Saturday 4 - Sunday 12 July 2020

The RWA Drawing School is delighted to be working in collaboration with the Verrocchio Art Centre set in Tuscany, Italy, to offer an 8-day residential creative holiday Locating a Personal Practice in Landscape, led by artist and President of the RWA, Stewart Geddes.

Through a mixture of individual and group tuition, and plein air and studio-based techniques, the holiday course will assist participants in identifying and developing a personal way forward in their painting. The environment of the Verrocchio Art Centre, the ancient town architecture, and the surrounding landscape will form the basis for ideas.

The character of the environment and the quality of light will particularly encourage thinking about colour.

Because the emphasis will be on locating a personal way forward, the course will embrace a breadth of painting styles: abstraction, figuration, observation and imagination.

It is anticipated that by the end of the course the participant will feel stronger and clearer about their own painting, and be able to take this new insight beyond the week-long course.

Some painting experience is desirable. Please note that unlike other Drawing School courses and workshops, we are unable to apply a Friends Discount to the holiday.

Stewart Geddes is formerly Head of Painting at Cardiff School of Art and Design (now Cardiff Metropolitan University) and is currently a Lecturer at Gloucestershire University. He has works in a number of public and private collections both nationally and internationally. He is an Honorary Academician of the Royal Scottish Academy.

* Please note, the £395 above covers tuition and materials costs for the holiday only. Participants will be responsible for purchasing and arranging their own return airfare.

Participants must arrange their own return travel from Bristol airport to Pisa airport (outbound on Saturday 4 July, return flight on Sunday 12 July).

Recommended outbound flight Saturday 4 July 2020

EasyJet Flight number EZY6189

Departure – Saturday 4 July, 06:30am

Arrival – Saturday 4 July, 09:45am

Recommended return flight Sunday 12 July 2020

EasyJet Flight number EZY6190

Departure – Sunday 12 July, 10:35am

Arrival – Sunday 12 July, 11:55am

We are aware that the outbound flight is particularly early and therefore we would like to provide another option. On Thursday 2 July there is a 13.55pm flight to Pisa which gets in at 17.05pm. The Verrocchio Art centre are arranging an option of a two night add-on for any that were interested that would include a pleasant itinerary of possibly staying in Lucca (half an hour from Pisa) and very beautiful, followed by a stop in Pistoia (fabulous shopping, art and architecture), and a night in Florence (endless things to do) with pick up from Florence on 4 July. This option is dependent on the numbers and the itinerary is not currently confirmed and can be further discussed with Hannah at

A separate payment will need to be made to the Verrocchio Art Centre for half-board and airport transfers.

This will be dependent on participant's choice of accommodation, and includes airport transfers.
